Inheritance Tax solutions

Inheritance Tax (IHT) is the tax that is paid by your heirs on your estate.  Broadly speaking (under current law and practice) this is everything you own at the time of your death, less what you owe, and can be a considerable burden for your heirs.  It may also be payable on assets given away during your lifetime.  Assets may include property, money, possessions and investments.

At Close we offer innovative investment solutions that may assist in mitigating an IHT liability.  These solutions have proven track records of successfully mitigating IHT from the estate of investors:

Close Trading Companies (CTC) - A company vehicle is established to hold a portfolio of asset-backed property-related trades qualifying for Business Property Relief (BPR), currently benefiting (under current law and practice) from 100% relief from IHT after just 2 years.  Trades include forestry, self storage, public houses, commercial and residential property.

Close Inheritance Tax Service (CITS) - A tailored discretionary investment portfolio management service for investment in companies quoted on the AIM market, currently benefiting (under current law and practice) from 100% Business Property Relief from IHT after a 2-year holding period.

The tax treatment of any investment depends on the individual circumstances of each client and may be subject to change in future.  We recommend that you consult with your tax adviser before committing to any product or service.

Our IHT solutions may be suitable for clients:

  • With wealth in excess of the nil rate band looking to mitigate IHT
  • Those looking for IHT solutions without loss of access to capital or loss of control.

Details of the risk associated with investment in CTC and CITS is set out in the relevant brochure or Information Memorandum, however, you should note that an investment and/or a holding in either service is subject to certain risks, including the loss of capital which may be significant and we offer no guarantee that either service will achieve its objective.
